about Slavery
Thomas Jefferson, of Virginia, urged in the Declaration
of Independence that the slave trade be forbidden. John Adams,
of Massachusetts, urged that the clause be omitted.
The
statute of establishing perpetual slavery was adopted by Massachusetts,
December, 1641.
